The new sofa and love set

With the holidays just around the corner, and everyone coming to the bash, wouldn't it be nice to have new furniture for your guests to sit on?

Might I suggest a few things to keep in mind while you shop for the new. Remember, every type of sitting is done on the new sofa and love. With that in mind you might want to consider some safety, and protection for the fabric and frame.

Lets see, the frame. The best frames to give you the longest life are hardwood frames that have been glued, reinforced corners, and screwed or tacked at all seams. There are products out in the market place that have pressboard and particle board frames, these tend to weaken quicker and definitely are heavier when moved, ( not suggested to do it weakens corners ).

The second thing to make sure you consider is a fabric protection against spills and stains. Make sure that you ask about the protection for the fabric that you are going to buy, and if it is a special ordered item this can be a real important part of the decision making.

Then when you have chosen the sofa and love, don't forget the chair and ottoman that match. Remember too, ask about the warranty and how long it lasts?

Labor Day

http://www.thehomecenters.com/

The Home Center has a great respect for all that can be accomplished when people put their minds to it. Forever, labor has been the driving force that has made this a great country, a leader in ideas, ingenuity, invention, industry, education, and much, much, more. All of the tests that have been put in front of our great county and people we have never failed to come to the rise and overtake the barriers that some would say should hold us down. This is not the American way!

It has been a great pleasure to have a staff of employees that work hard, show respect to others and service their communities in the best way possible.

I want to take my hat off to all of them and thank them for all that they do. When times are a little rough, they perform at a standard that can not be beat. When it looks like there is no end in sight, they pull up, stand up and don't take the bow.

To the manufacturer we work with and their staffs we at The Home Center enjoy their craftsmanship, their working hard to supply us with quality and pricing that keeps us in a competitive mode. They, as we know product of quality will be approved by the customer and our friends.

As another example in all of The Home Centers we are putting our foot forward and presenting great savings to all that work hard through out the year and suggesting that you stop by one of the stores for coffee and just a little conversation. Keep an eye on the savings, product, and service that we offer.

Join our blog and it will be fun and informative, email us for the items you would have interest in allow us the great privilege to know you.

Want To Smile??

Well, I figured it was time of another joke! It has been awhile, and we need something to lighten the mood. If this doesn't get you laughing I don't know what will!! :)

Mistakes on a resume

These are from actual resumes:

"Personal: I'm married with 9 children. I don't require prescription drugs. "

"I am extremely loyal to my present firm, so please don't let them know of my immediate availability."

"Qualifications: I am a man filled with passion and integrity, and I can act on short notice. I'm a class act and do not come cheap."

"I intentionally omitted my salary history. I've made money and lost money. I've been rich and I've been poor. I prefer being rich."

"Note: Please don't misconstrue my 14 jobs as 'job-hopping'. I have never quit a job."

"Number of dependents: 40."

"Marital Status: Often. Children: Various."

RESUME BLOOPERS

REASONS FOR LEAVING THE LAST JOB:

"Responsibility makes me nervous."

"Was met with a string of broken promises and lies, as well as cockroaches."

"I was working for my mom until she decided to move."

"The company made me a scapegoat - just like my three previous employers."

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

"While I am open to the initial nature of an assignment, I am decidedly disposed that it be so oriented as to at least partially incorporate the experience enjoyed heretofore and that it be configured so as to ultimately lead to the application of more rarefied facets of financial management as the major sphere of responsibility."

"I was proud to win the Gregg Typting Award."

SPECIAL REQUESTS & JOB OBJECTIVES:

"Please call me after 5:30 because I am self-employed and my employer does not know I am looking for another job."

"My goal is to be a meteorologist. But since I have no training in meteorology, I suppose I should try stock brokerage."

"I procrastinate - especially when the task is unpleasant."

http://www.thehomecenters.com

I have spent the morning researching "blogging". What does it mean, how is it effective, who really reads the blogs, how do we reach our target area? What I have found is a huge list of "do's" and don'ts" Don't be too personal, don't be too much about your business and what you are selling (that tends to turn people off, because they want to get to know you personally??). Do post often and find key-words and research your market area and link into others who are authorities in your area of business....etc.

Honestly, it's all overwhelming! Here at the Home Center I hope our blog would create an information station as to who we really are! First, we are people, just like you. We are moms, dads, grandpas, grandmas, aunts, uncles...just like you. We have likes and we have dislikes... just like you! Some of us our really into sports, play sports, watch sports...just like you. Some of us are soccer moms, some of us can hit a golf ball every now and then, others of us prefer to snuggle up to a good book or movie after work. People...just like you.

We are also people who shop. We have to fill our cupboards with food, we have to provide clothing for our children, we occasionally enjoy a dinner out. The one thing that stands out more than anything as a shopper is being treated as a person, not a number. So many times businesses seem to treat the consumer like a number, herd them in, herd them out. There seems to be less time and attention spent on treating people like a person!

Here at the Home Center we are dedicated to treating our customer's like people, since that's what we all are. We are so grateful to the customers walking through our doors. We want to offer you our time and attention to welcome you in and provide personal service. It's so hard to find anymore...SERVICE! We are large enough to provide for your needs, but small enough to care when you walk through our doors! Without you, we would not be here!

We offer wonderful merchandise that fits into most budgets. We spend great time and effort in finding the best possible values as well as quality. We train our staff to have the answers on every item in our stores, so we are able to find exactly what you are looking for!

At the Home Center you will find such a tremendous assortment of sofa and love seats. Not only do we keep them in stock, but if we don't have what you are looking for we will work aggressively to get it for you. Most of our sets come with lifetime warranties and offer extended warranties on the cushions so you can feel confident in the quality. Not only do we offer quality, but we provide value. We strive to accommodate every budget!

We also have a tremendous selection of mattresses. We offer guest bedroom quality on up to premium Latex and Memory Foam mattresses! We have the right mattress for you with wonderful savings to make it easy on your pocketbook.

At the Home Center we not only offer sofas and love seats and mattresses, but we have bunk beds, daybeds, recliners, dining sets, bedroom groups, lamps and home accessories. We offer a knowledgeable staff, friendly atmosphere and above and beyond, our people are here to meet your needs and service you. If you are in the market for furniture, we strongly suggest you head into one of our showrooms today!

Something to Think About

- Insight-

A new day, a new start.

Some days you realize just how important life can be. Hot sun at your back, soft shoes under your feet, full tank of gas, a nice brimming cup of coffee in hand. The simple pleasures of life.

Think of the things that can make you smile.

A smile from your child, a peace offering from an old friend, a simple email from a long lost family member, a gift of life, even things such as a deal on an item you have always wanted, getting that new car you wanted, spending wisely when normally you get in over your head, it is the little things we live for, isn't it?

Everyone wants something. Whether it be money, a home, comfort, love, there is always something. And more often then not it seems it is just out of reach.

Take a moment and look at what you have. Right now! Look at the things in front of you. The things that really matter. Happy kids playing with their toys, a sunny day that splashes light about, a computer humming as your fingers drum against the keys. It's the small simple pleasures of life. To wake up and be thankful for the job you have, or for the care you carry from family and friends, the health you have.

Live your days thankful for your surroundings. Live your days as each one was the last! Fear nothing, and fight hard, life is here and now, and in your grasp! Don't regret. Simply live!

" No Credit Check "

Would you like that new mattress and box set or maybe the new sofa and love? It makes no difference what piece of furniture you might need at " The Home Center". I believe that we have a perfect program that will fit into your life style and make it easy for you to have the home furnishings that are best suited for you.

Let me walk you through the program and see if it fits into your life style. The program is designed to be paid off in one year. That way you can never over buy and yet you can start with the room setting that is most important to you. Then, when the first is over you can come back and select the second room. This program also has a 90 day same as cash attached to it, so there is no interest if you pay it off within the 90 days. This just speeds up the process of filling in your home sooner. It makes no difference if you buy only one item or 20. Nor does it make any stipulation as to how much you must spend, that's all up to you.

Here's how it works, you must be employed for six (6) months, have your last paycheck stub, have a drivers licence or photo I.D.. You will have to bring in the last bank statement which must have been open for at least three (3) months with no type of penalty, i.e. overdrafts, we then would send this all of with a small application and they will let us know how large a purchase you are able to make.

There have been times when The Home Centers have been able to process all of the requirement via the fax from the customer. This means you don't even have to leave you home to apply. Wouldn't that make it really easy?

Your new bedroom set, dining set, or whatever you have in mind has just been made so simple for you. Email us a thehomecenter@thehomecenters.com, and we will help to make this a wonderful way to ease your purchases.

Perdue

As a small family owned company The Home Center not only appreciates small town values, but works diligently to provide the same service to our customers. Which is why we are taking a moment to introduce you to Perdue Woodworks, a manufacture we consider part of The Home Center family.

The Home Center is proud and honored to offer American Made products from a quality company such as Perdue Woodworks. Perdue Woodworks was founded in 1970 by Don and Joan Perdue in Western Montana. Starting out as a small family owned company Perdue Woodworks has now branched out with new facilities and services the entire United States as well as Canada, still under the direct supervision of the Perdue family.

The Home Center has sold Perdue products for over a decade. Perdue offers a wide range of bedroom furniture, as well as a variety of entertainment and office goods. All products are made with such care, every piece is signed by the maker!! Customer service like that is just impossible to find in this day and age. All wood products are made with a combination of pine and wood bi-products in order to produce a better quality, yet still an affordable piece.

We are extremely impressed to receive merchandised signed by the person who produced it at the factory. Not only is every piece signed by hand, but also chemical and water-resistant! All Perdue wood products are laminated with Epoxy to ensure superior water and chemical resistance. The Epoxy seal guarantees a non-bubbling finish when in contact with long term moisture!

Perdue Woodworks not only produces a quality product, but hand delivers their merchandise as another benefit to keep costs down. Perdue trucks readily deliver to their suppliers coast to coast!! Each and every piece is built at the factory, then sent out via Perdue trucks on a weekly basis. There is absolutely no assembly required!! All the work is done for us before we ever receive an item!

What does all of this mean to you the customer? It absolutely means you get a quality piece with no maintenance or labor involved an at an unbelievable savings! Not only is Perdue doing their part by employing hard working Americans, but they are also passing on great value to YOU the customer!

We urge you to check out their web-site, and see for yourself!! http://www.perduesinc.com/

Let The World Spin On Without You...

Does it ever seem like some days just won't end? Like there is always something that has to be done? Something calling your name, something waiting for you to water it, feed it, put it away?

Or a line that is always in front of you, or maybe a list. A list a mile long of chores, an event that must be attend, paper work or bills that must go out. There is always something.

Those days can, and are painful.

And then you have days you wish would last forever. Days where you wake up, and just know in the pit of your stomach that everything will be simple, that you can relax, that the things that usually call your name have been muted for just this one single day. You can breathe, maybe even ease back a little, and take some time for yourself.

Take that car ride you've been wanting to, watch that movie at the theaters, ever a bath that has been well over due. Normally a five to ten minute shower is all you have time for. Well, not today. This day is for you. Take your time, relax in those bubbles, breathe deep and rest easy.

Let the world spin on without you. If we do not take those days every now and then we will fall flat. We will ware ourselves thin, and then no one is happy.

Stress is a factor in everyones life...

We want you all to relax. Don't worry. Take a day for yourselves. Do what you want, whether it be staying in or going out. Just take the day. Walk the little town or big city you live in and see the local sites. Visit stores, museums, water parks, visit things you haven't been able to, or some of your favorite places you have sadly missed out on lately.

Don't ware yourself thin. After all you are the most important person-- to your family, friends, work, even your community!

Let The World Spin On Without You... Even if it's just a day.

Band Together

Working together. That is the best way to keep a company going. A well oiled company talks to each other, bounces idea off each other, relies on one another.

With life as it is now this is the only way we can all keep going. No matter if you are a huge company or a small home town one, it all applies. Working hand in hand, or side by side, is better then working any other way. You want to know that everyone is in it together and that you are not alone out there. Everyone working to their full potential is better then a group of five working at half mass.

I believe that with the way the world is spinning now that it is the best opportunity to lean from each other. Work as we have never done before and come out ahead of this mess that is around all of us.

Sites such as Twitter ( http://www.twitter.com/ ) is a great example. Everyone talking and communicating ideas and facts to everyone. With how many people are on Twitter, you may get an idea, you personally would have never thought of by yourself. 2 brains is better then one and 100 is better then 10. Lets use the resourses that are out that, and lets turn this economy around!! Lets band together.

Leave me your feed back, and lets talk... I am interested in what you personal have to say and your thoughts on the world as of now!

Something Catchy-- Joke of The Day!!

Here thought this was pretty cute! You must read!!

The perfect job

My first job was working in an orange juice factory, but I got canned...couldn't concentrate.

After that I tried to be a tailor, but I just wasn't suited for it...mainly because it was a so-so job.

Then I tried to be a chef -- figured it would add a little spice to my life, but I just didn't have the thyme.

Next I tried working in a muffler factory but that was too exhausting.

I managed to get a good job working for a pool maintenance company, but the work was just too draining.

I attempted to be a deli worker, but any way I sliced it, I couldn't cut the mustard.

Then I worked in the woods as a lumberjack, but I just couldn't hack it, so they gave me the ax.

Next was a job in a shoe factory; I tried but I just didn't fit in.

So then I got a job in a workout center, but they said I wasn't fit for the job.

After many years of trying to find steady work I finally got a job as a historian until I realized
there was no future in it.

I studied a long time to become a doctor, but I didn't have any patience.

My best job was being a musician, but eventually I found I wasn't noteworthy.

I became a professional fisherman, but discovered that I couldn't live on my net income.

My last job was working at Starbucks, but I had to quit because it was always the same old grind.

SO I RETIRED AND FOUND I'M PERFECT FOR THE JOB!

Thank you for the great jokes-- http://basicjokes.com

US Made vs. Foreign Made

I have been getting many questions on our vender's with, US products vs. imported products and the warranties they hold. Great question! So here's what I found out!

Here at the Home Center most of our upholstered items come from a company right here in Oregon. Mastercraft has been around for over 25 years, and we have worked with them exclusively for many of those. We have found that Mastercraft has the best price and materials around. With Mastercraft you get the best quality and options to fit you. Now, there are two separate sections to Mastercraft. And with in theses sections they are broken down even further. I will give you a short run down.

You have home made, and foreign made, and with in those you have Fire Side Classics and J. Remington, then Monterey. Both hold unique and high quality products, but yet the home made items, such as sofas and love seats, ottomans, stationary chairs, and recliners, have a one of a kind warranty.

Home Made:

In there line of Fire Side Classics and J. Remington that are made right here in the US. You get warranties such as, life time on seat cushions, and life time on springs and the frame, one year on sleeper and recliner mechanisms, as long as you are the original owner.

Also one of the best things about having it made right here is the options you get. Frame style, sectional positioning, even fabric color, thickness, and shag. Weather you would rather have a pattern or a flat color-- it's all your choice!!

Imported items:

The warranties are a little different with this selection. Everything on an imported items has a one year factory warranty. Items are built to withhold normal everyday rough housing and wear, but the warranty is just a tad bit scarce.

Also sofa loves, sectionals, ottomans, and chairs that have been imported are stuck in there fabric, frame style, and positioning they have been ordered in. Most of the imported items have a set look. They may vary from one or two different colors but all the fabric options are not available as with the home made items.

Another thing with imports is they take a little longer to receive in. With imports we tend to order in bulk. In ordering things that come from a further distance The Home Center has to order a container and fill it full for them to ship. If we do not have a high demand for the item we tend to stick with the home made. When ordering right here from the factory in Oregon we receive our products within about four weeks and some times even sooner.

Now don't get me wrong. If you come into one of the stores today, and the item you have been looking at is an import, don't worry. Normally we have stock in each item you are spotting on our show room floors, and if for some reason we are out, we will try out best to get the item built and rushed here. The one thing we hate is making our customers wait for the perfect sofa, sectional, ottoman, etc;...

Now you know the difference between home made and foreign. They have their ups and there downs, but all in all you can't go wrong with a new sofa love from Mastercraft! They know how to take care of business!!

Just talk with us. And please don't hesitate to call or email us with any questions you may have. Believe you me, we have heard them all.

MATTRESS AND SLEEP

http://www.thehomecenters.com

Mattress and sleep do go together, as we all think. However, it is really important that they do go together. If you toss and turn all night, if you sleep to cool, if you sleep too hot, or if you find pain in the morning or afternoon, it could be your on the wrong mattress set. Every mattress and box has a specific design and there is a reason for that.

Take the time to discuss the real reason why you are looking at buying a new mattress. Before you go into a store, talk it over with your partner and yourself the reason why, and what your needs are to get the rest you really need, let a lone the comfort. And, remember the last mattress history you bought, did it do the things you wanted it to do in year 2,3 ect...?

Why spend more moneys over the same amount of time when if, you bought the right mattress first? Don't be intimidated by the outer look of the mattress ask the right questions, and tell the salesman at The Home Center your real concerns about your sleep.

Flu Season

Getting the flu shot? Maybe you should! Seems to me that the flu season is starting a tad bit late this year! Normally the flu strikes the most in months such as November and runs strong till around April. But here we are, the start of July, and so many are finding themselves under the weather, and not from their 4th of July bashes.

Here are some helpful tips to get you through your Flu. Trying to fight it off before you get the illness is better then trying to work through it after you have. But the following will hopefully help you get out and about, and feeling like a million bucks, when you have been, caught in the whirl wind of illness.

Helpful tips:

No. 1: Blow Your Nose Often -- and the Right Way
It's important to blow your nose regularly when you have a cold rather than sniffling mucus back into your head. But when you blow hard, pressure can cause an earache. The best way to blow your nose: Press a finger over one nostril while you blow gently to clear the other. Wash your hands after blowing your nose.

No. 2: Stay Rested
Resting when you first come down with a cold or the flu helps your body direct its energy toward the immune battle. This battle taxes the body. So give it a little help by lying down under a blanket.

No. 3: Gargle
Gargling can moisten a sore throat and bring temporary relief. Try a teaspoon of salt dissolved in warm water, four times daily. To reduce the tickle in your throat, try an astringent gargle -- such as tea that contains tannin -- to tighten the membranes. Or use a thick, viscous gargle made with honey, popular in folk medicine. Steep one tablespoon of raspberry leaves or lemon juice in two cups of hot water; mix with one teaspoon of honey. Let the mixture cool to room temperature before gargling. Honey should never be given to children less than 1 year old.

No. 4: Drink Hot Liquids
Hot liquids relieve nasal congestion, help prevent dehydration, and can soothe the uncomfortably inflamed membranes that line your nose and throat.

No. 5: Take a Steamy Shower
Steamy showers moisturize your nasal passages and relax you. If you're dizzy from the flu, run a steamy shower while you sit on a chair nearby and take a sponge bath.

No. 6: Use a Salve Under Your Nose
A small dab of mentholated salve under your nose can open breathing passages and help soothe the irritated skin at the base of the nose. Menthol, eucalyptus and camphor all have mild numbing ingredients that may help relieve the pain of a nose rubbed raw.

No. 7: Apply Hot or Cold Packs Around Your Congested Sinuses
Either temperature may help you feel more comfortable. You can buy reusable hot or cold packs at a drugstore. Or make your own. Take a damp washcloth and heat it for 55 seconds in a microwave (test the temperature first to make sure it's right for you.) Or take a small bag of frozen peas to use as a cold pack.

The Word is Out!!

It is the time to buy!

The latest news articles are officially saying it is the best time to go out and pick up furniture today. With the housing market being as low as it has been, the furniture prices have dropped with them to accommodate all the new home owners- creating a frenzy! Meaning you can pick up that great bed room set you have been looking at for the last three months for a new stunning low price. Site such as: http://www.cyberhomes.com/, and the all famous: http://www.forbes.com/ have mentioned around the clock that this is a stunning low and items are to be flying of the floors like a whirl wind. And it proves to be true! Items here at our local Home Centers have been hotter and priced better then ever!

It has been a full time job restocking and filling our show room floors. Two large truck loads of fresh items are to be sent out and placed upon the floors with in the next month. And one truck has just arrived!! New items available, some that have never seen a Home Center floor, will now be proudly displayed with a smashing price tag!!

Have no worries about spending a huge chunk of cash, because here at The Home Center you can walk in and walk out with precisely everything you needed and you pocket book felt nothing. The savings are just that good!

Don't believe me? Then just stop on by, and see for yourself!

We are here to stay, and here to make life a little easier! Hit up a Home Center near you and see what all the hype is about!!

Father's Day

The Home Center would like to congradulate all Dads this Father's Day.

It was rather exciting at my home this morning, I was given the gift of a lifetime. Next Sunday I will be flying on a kite about 6,000 ft above Lake Samamish, what a view I will see. I guess that the trip up to the top of the mountain is quiet an experience too.

But, the real thrill will be up, up, and away. I will keep you all up to date as the training will start, and the gear will be tried on, they say it is cold up there and I will need to be prepared.

Hope I see, or should I say "I will fly like an Eagle.

Get what you paid for

http://www.thehomecenters.com

Get what you paid for: that's not always the case.

Many times at The Home Center you will find the merchandise is much more than "you paid for". To many times the customer doesn't take the time to ask questions about the product as they should. We find there are a lot of look a like items in the marketplace, but this does not mean they are all built alike, or by the same vendors.

Knock off artists are out there and they try to reproduce a look a like at a lesser value to the customer. The underline to that product is the quality of materials used, the construction, and warranty that goes with the item. It's not always the outer side of the box, it's whats inside the box. I mean how and what is used to produce the merchandise.

The Home Center works very hard with vendors to make sure that the right materials, construction and factories are up to standards we would be proud of and who stand behind the products they make. There are lots of products that must be assembled when purchased, but we find that it is better to buy product assembled by the factory ( they know what they are doing).

Building relationships with manufacturers allows better buying, which is then passed on to the consumer. That type of loyalty does build power that not only box stores have but, so do the locally owned, small businesses. Check out our You Tube and meet some of the employees that can service you over the phone or in the locations. Get to know us on a little more of a personal and friendly manor. It make buying so much more.

Remember the contest ends May 31st. (read below)

Shopping at a locally owned furnture and mattress store.

http://www.thehomecenters.com

Why buy from a locally owned furniture and mattress store?

With the awareness of all the grandiose furniture and mattress stores in the market place, the things that I find are missing all of the time, is the knowledge of the products sold, and the service that's available. We small businesses depend on the return and referral customers.
How does this all happen? By being dependable, knowledgeable, and servicing the needs when requests are asked of us. I believe that the customer wants the same that we the owners expect from our vendors. Teach us about the products that we sell, show us all of the factors which make the product worth the price. Help us see how it is made, what materials are put into the items, and why it warrants the warranty that they put behind their items. Once it is determined to show the merchandise, we spend a lot of time teaching all of our staff about the product, and how the vendor supports their line. Knowing as much as possible about merchandise makes it so much easier to have a good relationship with our customer. People are not just looking, I know they want to know about what they would like to buy. But, if they feel no comfort with the staff because of lack of product knowledge, they will excuse themselves by saying " I'm just looking".
Now about service, it's simple. Follow through, all the way to the counter for the close. After the merchandise is sold, all of the other parts make the difference. Delivery schedule, pick up at the door, special orders, follow up phone calls, I could go on and on. These are where a small business can make great strides in building a real relationship that will last.
When walking into a locally owned furniture and mattress store, remember to take extra time and get to know your sales staff, you may be working with the owner. I know I would like to know your name and somethings about you and your family. It's so much more fun when we are on a name to name basis, it helps break down barriers. Have a good time shopping and I hope to see you soon.

Remember the contest. You could win $250.00.

Win $250.00

It's not work every minute at The Home Center! Sometimes we try and put a little fun in the work place with all of our customers. This is one of those times. During the month of May with the sun showing up? and the weather turning a little warmer? we all like that famous treat.

The Ice Cream Cone! It's always a warming feeling when you eat an Ice Cream Cone.

At The Home Center, we have found out the owner has a real craving for ice cream and putting it on a cone is a real special treat for him. Knowing that, we are running a contest that all will get a kick from. It's real simple, " guess what flavor the Owner like best." That's all you have to do.

You can guess what flavor the owner likes email it to " robertb@thehomecenters.com " and we will keep your guess on record until the end of May ( 31st ). One entry per person please. June 5th, we will announce the winner and the flavor. If there is more than one right guess, we will put the names into a hat and draw the winner from there. The winner will receive a cashiers check for $250.00. That's right win $250.00 for your guess.

Have fun and send your guess in, employees and families may not participate.

No Credit Check Financing

Keep Shopping Locally

http://www.thehomecenters.com

Are you aware: Where does your sales tax moneys go?
It is a question that each of us needs to know. Because it is spread out among many different agencies. And each of us needs to be aware of how we help our community or hinder it. With every dollar that is collected and then spent it effects our other tax collections, and services. Police, Fire, Roads, Parks, Sewer, Water, Schools, all public services too many to mention.
The first two listed and Schools are of great concern to me and I'm sure everyone. But, it's not something we think about when it's time to go and buy that special item we are looking for. I'm not sure how exactly the moneys are divided between each of the above and the state, however I do know that it does represent an important part of the budget for a city. When the revenue is lowered the first thing that the city budget does is cut our services. Example: How is the sports programs in the school systems? Do the schools still offer all the programs they did 5 yrs. ago? Do the streets get cleaned regularly? Does the police dept come out and work with the youth in the ball fields? Do the parks get mowed and cleaned properly? I'm sure that there are many things as you think about it that are changing.
Being the owner of a small business in small communities, I'm concerned! Today our families are putting together auctions, rallies, drawing to keep some of the services moving in a protective and productive way. Yet, people leave their own community and do their buying in other cities. They are benefiting other police depts, fire depts, and schools without understanding that their spending is effecting them and the life style of those around them. It's important to keep the wheel turning in each of the smaller communities as well as a state level.
Knowing your local drug store seems to be the thing of the past, yet that drug store has been a supporter of baseball parks, boys and girls activities, adult auctions, and many other adventures over the years. Wasn't it nice when you knew the person's name when you were buying product or asking for a service? Wouldn't you feel a little more secure with your purchase if the company's name was Bill, Susan, instead of a company's name? Or knowing the person sitting next to you at the sports game, or the dinner out was someone you could relate to when you are shopping for that special item? If we are going to use the Internet to be that sales person today, why not call the local stores and see if they use the Internet to communicate with the customer? Then when its time to go and purchase the items you will have begun to build a relationship with a real person in your own community.
What a success story that would be, first you met someone in your own community, and second you supported you local city and services. I believe, that if people would just walk around their own city streets, they would find no matter how large or small the city all of the items they are looking for. ( Even if they have to order them and wait an extra day or two ). What a concept? Be introduced to new people in your own area, and see the area you live in.

I would like to end this little blog with this: "I have lived in this community for 30 years and never been in this store". You have no idea how many times that conversation would end with " your service, prices, and store is wonderful, I'll take it!"

Shopping locally

http://www.thehomecenters.com
Have you ever heard, " I'm just looking"? That's not normally the case in the furniture industry.
You will soon see that in the furniture retail, the stores are independent buildings, they wait for the customer to come to them.

This means the customer is on a hunt and wants some real answers to questions that they have, or some knowledge about an item. There is a want or need that is going to be filled one way or another. And, it starts with a greeting! If the person or persons feel welcome there will be a beginning. An entry into the development of a relationship between the customer, the sales person, and the retail store. But in todays world we in the industry have trained the customer to look for it on their own, not enough help, poor merchandising, bad sales people, and little knowledge of the products. It's been set up to be a "do it on your own.." attitude.
I ask myself, why so much interest with the internet? Why the call and not the normal traffic? Why only asking for a price over the phone? How do they know if it is comparable to the last phone call request they just made? How many times did the merchandise get to the home and it wasn't what they thought it was as far a quality? How many times does the retailer get a bad mark because it didn't stand up to the standards the customer was looking for? I know they are not getting the product they should get if, I could show them from what was described, the one they should have gotten.

Am I on the right track? I think so.

What the customer wants first is being recognized. Second, they are made to feel comfortable in the place they are at, and there are real answers about all of the products they are hunting for. To listen is to win their loyalty. To answer their questions with honesty is to gain their trust. Sometimes that means having to say "I don't know", finding out the right answer, then report back to them. Taking the extra steps will lead to a more meaningful relationship in the future.

I have taken the time to hunt for items on the internet, made by different manufactures and found in every case they all have the best. Without the one on one connection with a real person it is hard to believe there are not some differences between each. I.e. tires, they all make a mud and snow tire, refrigerators, lots to choose and they are all the best, paint, furniture, mattresses, same thing ect... BUT, what about the salesperson who can help make the right decision? Sometimes price is not the "I'll buy it " answer. Why are there 3 types of gas for the cars and trucks? Why is there red and white wine? Why is rare or medium? I find it more rewarding to answer these and other questions with the help from someone I can see and trust.

Being the owner I welcome people to help us get better with positive input on how we are doing, and how can we become better. So please feel free to comment.

Oh, how about becoming a follower too?

Something to Lighten The Mood!!

Here at The Home Center we know how to have fun!!

Here is something I thought you all would enjoy!!

How to Scary a Coworker:

1) Page yourself over the intercom. Don't disguise your voice.

2) Find out where your boss shops and buy exactly the same outfits. Wear them one day after your boss does. This is especially effective if your boss is a different gender than you.

3) Make up nicknames for all your co-workers and refer to them only by these names. "That's a good point, Sparky." "No, I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to disagree with you there, Chachie."

4) Send e-mail to the rest of the company telling them exactly what you're doing. For example: "If anyone needs me, I'll be in the bathroom."

5) Hi-Lite your shoes. Tell people you haven't lost them as often since you did this.

6) While sitting at your desk, soak your fingers in Palmolive. Call everyone Madge.

7) Hang mosquito netting around your cubicle. When you emerge to get coffee, a printout, or whatever, slap yourself at random the whole way.

8) Put a chair facing a printer. Sit there all day and tell people you're waiting for your document.

9) Every time someone asks you to do something, anything, ask him or her if they want fries with that.

10) Send e-mail back and forth to yourself, engaging yourself in an intellectual debate. Forward the mail to a co-worker and ask her to settle the disagreement.

11) Encourage your colleagues to join you in a little synchronized chair-dancing.12) Put your trash can on your desk. Label it "IN".

13) Feign an unnatural and hysterical fear of staplers.

14) Send e-mail messages saying there's free pizza, donuts, or cake in the lunchroom. When people drift back to work complaining that they found none, lean back, pat your stomach, and say, "Oh you've got to be faster than that."

15) Put decaf in the coffeemaker for three weeks. Once everyone has withdrawn from caffeine addiction, switch to espresso.

***Smile, relax, have some fun!! We'll see you soon!!

Q and A

MATTRESSES...

The most important questions!!! Strait from http://www.ladyamericana.com/.

Q. Why is sleep important?

A. Sleep is a key part of a healthy lifestyle. Like eating right and exercising, sleeping well is essential to feeling your best during the day. It affects how you feel, your relationships, your productivity and your quality of life. While you sleep, your brain goes to work, consolidating the day's learning into memory and re energizing the body.

Q. Is it true that napping can be bad for you?

A. There's nothing wrong with taking a short nap to help refresh you during the day. But if you find you're napping all the time, it could be a sign that you aren't getting as much sleep as you should. Or that you're not getting the deep, restful sleep you need at night.

Q. Does the mattress affect how a person sleeps?

A. Yes. The mattress has the potential either to encourage sleep or rob you of sleep. Whether your mattress is a sleep friend or a sleep foe can determine how refreshed you feel in the morning. If you're tossing and turning more at night or if you're waking up feeling stiff or sore after a night's sleep, it could be a sign that your current mattress is no longer the best for you. Your body appreciates a comfortable, supportive mattress and will let you know if it's not up to the task.

Stop by your local Home Center and try out the very mattress that will fit your body type, style and comfort levels to a "T"!

Check out the Malibu: Ten year non pro rated warranty! Ultra firm foundation, with dura guard edge foam encasement!

Have questions? Drop us a email or give us a call, and we will put you on the best mattresses for you! Don't wait. Don't sleep one more night on a mattresses that is beyond the point of repair! Take advantage of the March sale, and have us delivery it today!!
